Diversity of Services Provided
Historically, our field once was Eyes, Ears, Nose and Throat. Ironically, “Eyes” was the field I was most driven to. I am still passionate about the concept of vision and all that entails. However, upon pursuing this field as early as I could and with the introductory lesson included heavy emphasis on the extra “H” in “Ophthalmology,” I quickly became disillusioned by working on such a narrow field, as important as it is. Equally ironically, the ENT rotation was included and I thank God for it as well as my medical school education at Baylor College of Medicine.
Also historically and as I soon learned, the ENT of the past had grown dramatically, thanks in part to one of my foremost mentors Dr. Bobby Ray Alford. Now, and excitingly for me, the field is much more robust and diverse: Ears, Nose and Throat/Head and Neck Surgery/Facial Plastic Surgery. And I love it!
Just as I love the diversity of working with young children to our elderly – truly America’s Greatest Generation as Tom Brokaw so eloquently wrote of – I remain excited at the spectrum of what our field has to offer. This ranges ear tubes to meticulous thyroid and parathyroid surgery, nasal and sinus surgery – which is a particular passion – to skin cancer reconstruction, an equally passionate field.
I hope that the brief review of the following services is helpful and am grateful to serve you in these capacities.
